Jean Cassidy Art • OIL Paintings

Oil painting outside includes all the senses

I like to paint with oils plein air (outside.)  Since I live in New England, I will often paint in three seasons.  The coastal landscape is what I see every day; salt marshes, rock walls, meadows ,woods, ponds and the bays. Being inside the studio on a beautiful day can be difficult for me.  This is when I get the call to go be in my subject.

Painting plein air is a total body experience. I feel the wind, the sun, the cold, and the heat.  Although it often feels like a physical challenge, each painting is a memory.   I remember how I felt while painting. What the weather was like, how the light changed and who I was painting with.

I am physically and mentally absorbed and it is always worth it.
